The Ukrainian side is ready to participate in the trilateral negotiations on Russian gas supply and transit through Ukraine to the EU in September 2019 as Energy Ministry reported citing Minister Oleksiy Orzhel.
Thus, Orzhel noted the readiness to continue the trilateral gas negotiations in the short term during the talk with European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic.
“The Ukrainian delegation, which I will head, is ready to participate in the trilateral gas negotiations this month,” Orzhel stated.
Besides, the parties discuss the process of unbundling of Naftogaz Ukraine and the necessity of its early completion.
Orzhel and Sefcovic noted that the cooperation in the energy sphere should remain to be one of the priorities of the relations Ukraine-EU. Besides, the integration of the energy markets of the EU will contribute to the strengthening of the energy security of both sides.
On January 21, 2019, the trilateral gas talks took place in Brussels. Then Russia reported that it is ready to extend the acting contracts on gas transit after 2019. Then Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin stated that the return of the contracts on Russian gas transit is impossible.
In April 2019, European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic reported that another round of the trilateral gas talks is planned for the end of May, after the election of the new president of Ukraine.
In June 2019, Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission have agreed to hold the trilateral negotiations on the Russian gas transit across Ukraine's territory in September 2019.
