Due to the fact that the European Union is blocking the way for refugees to Europe through the Balkans and Italy, Afghans fleeing the Taliban regime will travel through Ukraine. This was stated by adviser to the head of the President's Office, speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas conflict settlement Oleksiy Arestovych in an interview with the YouTube channel Ukrlife.TV, Focus reports.
“We will have the first camp of 5 000 people here with Afghan refugees,” Arestovych states.
He urged not to be afraid of Afghans coming to Ukraine - they are not "mujahideen with daggers", but educated people who have worked with Western countries and know foreign languages.
“Often they are much more educated than the average Ukrainian and integrated into the Western community,” Arestovych said.
In his opinion, Ukraine will be able to use Afghans as translators.
After the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan, six evacuation planes arrived in Ukraine, on which more than 650 people flew to Kyiv.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine assured that the evacuation of Ukrainians from Afghanistan will continue after August 31, because in the last few days the Ukrainian diplomatic missions have received a new wave of requests for evacuation from the country.
133 citizens of Afghanistan have already been stationed in Odesa. Temporary accommodation points in Transcarpathia and Odesa are designed for an average of 330-350 people and have already been filled.
