Healthcare Minister Maksym Stepanov stated that Ukraine holds talks with companies that have already registered the vaccines against coronavirus as the minister stated during the briefing.
Stepanov was asked why Ukraine has signed the contract with Chinese Sinovac Company and why it does not hold talks with other companies. Stepanov said the next:
“Each and every producer in the world that produces vaccines and provided reports; the companies that have registered the vaccines…We hold talks with them since May, as well as COVAX. That is why manipulations used by some political figures can do nothing but talks. Their goal is to awe and keep Ukrainians in fear,” he said.
Currently, Ukraine has concluded the contract with only one producer of the vaccine against Covid-19 – Chinese Sinovac Biotech Company.
Earlier, Lekhim concluded the contract with Chinese company Sinovac Biotech on the supply of five million doses of its vaccine to Ukraine.
However, the efficacy of the vaccine against coronavirus produced by the Chinese Sinovac Company has proved to be lower than it is mentioned in the purchase contract. The efficacy of the vaccine makes only 50.38%; while in the purchase contract concluded between the company and the Health Ministry, it is noted that the efficiency of the vaccine should make not less than 70%.
Health Minister Maksym Stepanov stated that Ukraine would refuse the supply of this vaccine if its efficacy remains less than 70% at the moment of supply. In such a case, the company should reimburse the funds allocated from the state budget.
