"I offered the Foreign Minister of Hungary to recall this consul. If it is not done this week, we will send a note to the Hungarian side on his expulsion," Klimkin emphasized.
Also, the minister reminded that Hungary violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
"I told the Foreign Minister of Hungary our argumentation, they violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. 100%. Of course, by definition, nobody should hide the fact of acquisition of rights and commitments," he said.
Klimkin thinks that Russia used the situation with the dual citizenship to destabilize situation.
"But let's look at the most important. The most important is that Russia uses and will use this situation for the destabilization in Zakarpattia, you remember about the cases of the arsons organized by the FSB from Transnistria. There will be other cases, remember, that a lot of fakes appeared on the internet after this video. We should be aware," he said.
Klimkin urged to "not bully" the Hungarians but help the Hungarian community.
"I warn everybody against bullying or harassment of the Hungarians in Zakarpattia. Rather, you should help the Hungarian community. We need to intercept the initiative. We will act politely with Hungary but very tough and consistently," he noted.
Earlier, Ukrinfrom published a video where a few Ukrainians are receiving Hungarian passports and owe allegiance to Hungry in the Consulate in Berehove. The Hungarian diplomat recommended not to inform the Ukrainian authorities about receiving the new documents.
Later, Pavlo Klimkin, the Foreign Minister, said that the video is being checked on the authenticity. If it is authentic, the Hungarian consul might be expelled from the country.
In his turn, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, claimed the attempts to intimidate the Transcarpathian Hungarians and threatened to make Ukraine’s integration more complicated.
Later it was also reported that for seven years, the Hungarian consulates in Berehove and Uzhhorod of Zakarpattia region have been granting Hungarian citizenship to local residents who are citizens of Ukraine.
Tamás Menczer, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Spokespoerson later reported that Hungary does not intend to withdraw its consul from Berehovo due to the scandalous video about issuance of Hungarian passports to the Ukrainians.
In its turn, Ukraine claimed that in case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary does not withdraw their consul from Berehove, Zakarpattia region, then Ukraine will offer him to abandon the territory.
