Ukraine, Georgia condemns Russia's delegation return to PACE

The delegations of Ukraine and Georgia launched a complaints procedure in PACE over Russia’s return to the organization, as the press office of PACE reports.

Member of Georgian delegation Nino Gogadze submitted an appeal. 50 delegators supported is, as Pravda informed.

Besides, the Head of Ukraine’s delegation to PACE Volodymyr Aryev submitted an appeal against the power of Russian delegation. He referred to the fact that Russian delegation consists of members elected in a multi-member electoral district, in particular in occupied Crimea which doubts the legitimacy of their mandate.

As the Spokesperson of Ukraine’s MFA Kateryna Zelenko said, Ukraine’s further steps depend on the results of the process.

“We will see the results of the process until the end of the day. Then, we will talk about specific steps,” she stressed.

The decision whether the mandate of the Russian delegates will be confirmed will be made on June 26, as the President of the Assembly Liliane Maury Pasquier said.

Earlier, the representative of Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that Russian delegates intended to get to work right after the mandate is confirmed and participate in the elections of the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe on June 26. Interfax reported that the delegation had arrived in Strasbourg.

It was also reported that a protest against Russia’s delegation return is being held near the building of the organization. The protesters brought Ukrainian and Georgian flags, they are shouting. Besides, some participates are holding posters with accusations of Russia for aggression against Ukraine and Georgia.

As it was reported, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution which changes the sanctions regime and allows Russia to return to work in the organization without limitations to the right to vote.
