Ukraine expels consul of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Odesa. He has to leave the territory of Ukraine until the end of April 30, 2021, as the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported.
“The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine declares consul of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Odesa undesired person for a stay in the territory of Ukraine. He should leave the territory of Ukraine until the end of April 30, 2021,” the message said.
The ministry assumed such measures as the response to the expulsion of the employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow.
“The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine expresses strong protest due to the declaration on April 26 by the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation an employee of Ukraine’s Embassy in Moscow persona non grata. We consider such a step as a continuation of the anti-Ukrainian campaign deployed by Russia and another expression of unfriendly actions against employees of the diplomatic establishments of Ukraine,” the message said.
The Ukrainian ministry also noted that it completely excludes unfounded accusations that the Ukrainian diplomat held activity unsuitable for diplomatic status. “An employee of the Embassy of Ukraine in Moscow did not commit any actions that would go beyond his diplomatic and consular functions”.
As we reported, Russia declared an employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow persona non-grata. The diplomat must leave Russia by the end of the day on April 30.
By the way, the name of the diplomat was not revealed by the ministry. However, the Foreign Ministry added that it had warned the Ukrainian side that in the event of "hostile actions against employees of Russian diplomatic and consular missions," additional measures would be taken against the staff of Ukrainian embassies and consulates in Russia.
