Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry expresses a strong protest to Russian Federation in connection with its intention to call for military service the residents of the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol. This is stated in a message published on the website of Foreign Ministry.

“The resolution of United Nations General Assembly  A / RES / 71/205 from December 19, 2016 on the “Situation on Human Rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)” stated the fact of illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by Russian Federation and called upon it to fulfil its obligations under international humanitarian law, international mechanisms for human rights protection and other legal instruments to which it is a party. In this context, it was demanded to cancel the military conscription for citizens of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as to ensure strict observance by the Russian side of their international obligations,” the message says.
