Ukraine commemorates victims of political repressions today

The events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions take place at the territory of Bykivnia graves National Historic Memorial today. This was reported by the presidential press service.

The activities commence at 11 a.m.

"We bow our heads honoring those killed and affected by the totalitarian regime for their freedom, nationality, belief, political opinion and citizenship. The number and scale of civilian casualty incidents from repressions and persecution during the days of the USSR is horrible," government press service quotes Ukrainian Prime Minister.

"We are carefully studying these dramatic pages in history of our country and educate our future generations, so that they understand how hard-won was the freedom and independence, right to live in democratic and European country," Groysman added.

He also stressed that Ukrainian authorities are doing everything possible to liberate prisoners.
