On May 1, Ukraine celebrates an international holiday - Labor Day, which is also called International Workers' Day or May Day.
This holiday is celebrated in most countries of the world. It commemorates the working protests in Chicago which began on May 1, 1986. On that very day, hundreds of thousands of the biggest working industrial centers in the USA demanded the implementation of the 8 hours working day.
That is why this day is believed to be The Day of the national fight for the rights of the workers. As of today, the mass demonstrations and protests took place in Vienna, Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Paris, and Milan.
For the first time, Labor Day was celebrated in Ukraine in 1980. Until 2017, it was called the Day of International Solidarity of Workers and later it was renamed. Usually, this day people hold outdoor activities and spend time with families. However, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the mass events are restricted.
