Ukraine celebrates the Independence Day of Ukraine today, on August 24. This is the main state holiday in modern Ukraine since the Declaration of Independence from the U.S.S.R. was adopted in 1991.

Generally independence day is celebrated with a military parade held in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, and plenty other activities through out the country.

It is a day to remember the heroes of Ukraine’s past and honor those who fought and died to secured their long-desired independence.

This year a military parade dedicated to the Independence Day shall take place in Khreschatyk, the main street of Kyiv.
