On Sunday, January 22, Ukraine celebrates Unity Day. In 2017, Ukraine marks the 98th anniversary of signing Unification Act by the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic on the St. Sophia Square in Kyiv.
It is planned to hold solemn celebration in the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv with the participation of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko this day.
Also, on the Unity Day the capital will also be laying flowers to monuments of Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Hrushevsky, to monuments and places of burial of prominent figures of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, fighters for Ukrainian independence in the XX century, victims who died during the Dignity Revolution and ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation in Donbas).
In addition, it is planned to open the memorial plaque in honor of the Sich Riflemen corps commander, Colonel of the UNR army, founder of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists - Yevhen Konovalets.
