Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Border Guard on April 30 for the first time ever. Earlier President Petro Poroshenko signed an order for the establishment of this date.
'I congratulate the workers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine with the professional holiday – Border Guard's Day that will be celebrated on April 30 in Ukraine. I am sure; enhancing the glory of the previous generations, the modern border guards of the Ukrainian State will keep remaining the benchmark of the professionalism, honesty and dedication in upholding of the sovereignty of our country', Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.
Also, the press service of the National Security and Defense Council published the congratulation of National Security Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.
'This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Special Border Guard Force – the predecessor of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The soldiers of the Special Border Guard Force defended the border of the Ukrainian State, controlled the movement of the persons, opposed the movement of illicit goods, detained the deserters and criminals, laying the foundation for the work of the modern border guards', the message said.
Turchynov thanked the border guards for the fulfilling of the military duty and honored the memory of the workers of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service who died defending Ukraine.
'We will make every effort to make the state border to become the insuperable European shaft for the enemy – secure and technically equipped. The significant step at this direction is the implemented biometric control that improved the security situation in the country, complicated the access to Ukraine for the Russian spies, saboteurs and intimidators', Turchynov added.
As we reported the Ukrainian border guards will celebrate their professional holiday on April 30. Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine claimed this at the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on April 27.
