According to the minister, the supplies of hydrogen will allow to enhance the energy safety and economy of Ukraine.
“From all points of view, the development of the hydrogen energy is not just the source of the creation of the alternative source of energy but the big political European project, which can dramatically change the power balance in Europe. For example, Ukraine can replace Russia in relations with Germany, when the issue is about the gas supplies. We should not consider hydrogen as an exclusively economic project, the supply of hydrogen to the EU is a big political project and very serious instrument of the European integration,” he said.
On August 22, in pursuance of the agreements between President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the German energy company RWE (Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk) signed a memorandum of cooperation in the hydrogen economy sector.
Chairman of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko stated that this document opens the prospects on the export of the “green” hydrogen to the European market, particularly to Germany. The existing network of the gas pipelines can be used for it, as well as the alternative means, particularly, the vessels for transportation of the ammonia.
