A marvelous, unbelievable night for the national team of Ukraine, Andriy Shevchenko and the fans who watched the game on the stadium, in bars and their TVs. The Yellow Blues defeated Sweden 2-1 in the EURO 2020 fixture of the Round of the last 16.
Ukraine's Oleksandr Zinchenko opened the score in the first half. Oleksandr Karavayev got the ball on the right flank, gave it to Andriy Yarmolenko. The captain then who passed it to Oleksandr Zinchenko who landed a beautiful blow, leaving Robin Olsen no chances.
Emil Forsberg equalized the score shortly before the halftime. And then, the fans saw a long, nervous and tough second half, which resembled a true war on the pitch. The struggle got even more tense when the teams played the extra time. Players fouled, inflicted injuries on their opponents, and eventually the referee sent Marcus Danielsson off; the Swedish midfielder tackled Artem Besedin so hard the Ukrainian had to ask for a substitution - soon after appearing on the pitch.
Eventually, the Yellow Blues managed to deliver one final blow, which put an end to the big Swedish hope. Zinchenko landed a cross from the left flank and Artem Dovbyk finished with a beautiful header. It was the 121st minute of the game. The judge blew the final whistle, sending Swedes home and leaving Ukraine in euphoria.
