Ukraine expects that during the meeting of American President Joe Biden and Russian president Vladimir Putin in Geneva, the U.S. will assert influence over Russia in the peaceful settlement of Donbas Conflict as Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba stated.
“We expect that President Biden will tell Vladimir Putin that the U.S. is on the side of Ukraine and it will do everything to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. When Russia recognizes that the U.S. is serious, Moscow will adopt a constructive position and it will make significant concessions. The U.S. can drastically influence the peace process between Ukraine and Russia,” Kuleba noted.
According to him, for change of the situation in the negotiation process on Donbas, the involvement of the U.S. in the Normandy Format is not obligatory. More active involvement of the country in the solution of the issue can help and it takes place.
“The talk of President of Biden with President Putin in Geneva is also the part of this involvement,” the minister added.
Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin will meet in Swiss Geneva on June 16. It will be the first meeting of the leaders since Biden assumed the presidential office.
