The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated 175 million hryvnias ($6.5 million) to eliminate the consequences of a social emergency on the border with Belarus. The relevant decision was made at a government meeting on November 24, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko reports.
UAH 66.9 million ($2.5 million) will be provided to the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) from the special fund, and UAH 108.1 million ($4 million) will go to the National Guard.
It is noted that today on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border there is a real threat of armed attacks, seizure and detention of SBGS and other law enforcement agencies during attempts to cross the border by illegal migrants staying in Belarus.
In order to strengthen border protection, 3,098 border guards and 859 National Guardsmen were involved in the first wave, and 390 units of equipment were involved. 1,555 border guards, 193 units of military equipment, 6,993 units of the National Guard and more than 100 units of military equipment are planned to be involve in the second and third waves.
As it was reported earlier, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky stated that Ukraine must be ready at any time to impose a state of emergency in the border areas due to migrants from Belarus.
He also noted that Ukraine will use echelon cover tactics to protect border guards and will allow law enforcers to open fire.
