Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba commented on the decision of the ECHR that delivered a verdict on lawsuits of Ukraine against Russia on the violation of human rights in temporarily occupied Crimea.
“It is a victory of Ukraine. It is an important step in the prosecution of Russia for aggression against Ukraine. With every step, the price of the responsibility will grow,” Kuleba said.
He noted that such cases, besides the ECHR, are considered at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
“All of them step by step will confirm the truth brought by Ukraine to the world since 2014 when the Russian aggression has started and they will refute all this propaganda and disinformation spread by the Russian Federation,” the minister added.
On January 14, the European Court of Human Rights ruled on Ukraine's lawsuits against the Russian Federation regarding human rights violations in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The court found Ukraine's case against Russia partially admissible and proceeded to consider the case on the merits.
The ECHR found that Russia's de facto control over the occupied Crimean peninsula began around February 27, 2014.
