Two trains collided near Kamianets-Podilskyi at the Nihyn railway station today, on May 27. This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to the information, passenger train #139 Kyiv-Kamianets-Podilskyi composed of 15 wagons collided with freight train with 17 wagons of gravel.
"Locomotive and 2 freight wagons carrying crushed stone flipped as a result of hit, locomotive and passenger wagon derailed. 541 people were in the passenger train, 6 people got injured in the occurrence, 4 children among them (minor injuries). The victims were evacuated from the damaged wagon and taken to the doctors for medical assistance," the message reads.
All the train passengers were evacuated and taken to destination place by buses. Evacuation was completed as of 8:30 a.m.
Operative team, 11 rescuers and 3 vehicles were working at the scene.
