After the Agreement on the Free Trade Area entered into force, the goods turnover between Ukraine and Canada increased by 60%. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the meeting with the Governor-General of Canada Julie Payette on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"Ukraine and Canada have many achievements: the Free Trade Agreement entered into force, which significantly accelerates and creates better conditions for the development of trade and investment. We have a positive result - our bilateral trade grew by 60%, which is a clear indication of the revival of the Ukrainian economy. The Free Trade Agreement that we prepared is exactly what the business of Ukraine and Canada is waiting for, "Poroshenko said.
As it was reported earlier Governor-General of Canada Julie Payette is visiting Ukraine on January 18. It is expected that in Ukraine, she will meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Canadian soldiers who serve in the frameworks of the UNIFIER operation.
Julie Payette was appointed the 29th Governor General of Canada in July last year. She took office on October 2.
"Free trade between Ukraine and Canada will start on August 1. Canada made us a present for the Constitution Day: we received a government note on the completion of all internal procedures for the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement. We have an ambivalent feeling: the finish and the start are two in one. This is a historical moment that sums up the enormous stratum of work of our diplomats and politicians, but this is also the beginning of a much more significant stage: the time to fill this Agreement with life - contracts, jobs and investments, " Ukrainian ambassador to Canada, Andriy Shevchenkob noted.
