Tomos on the autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was earlier signed by the Synodus in Istanbul, has returned to Ukraine, as the President Petro Poroshenko said delivering a speech at Rivne's Svyato-Pokrovsky catherdal.
“It was very symbolic that after the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed the Tomos on autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, it was delivered to Ukraine. On January 7, a prayer took place in the ancient Saint Sophia's catherdal on Christmas. Tens of thousands parishioners had an opportunity to see the Tomos on autocephaly,” the President said.
According to him, on January 9 Tomos was returned to Constantinople so that all the members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate can sign it.
“Today morning (January 10, - 112 International), Tomos came back to Ukraine. By the decision of the apostle on the blessing of His Holiness, it is here in Rivne today,” the President noted.
Earlier, it was reported that the members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate signed the Tomos on providing autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew passed the Tomos of autocephaly and bishops’ crosier to the apostle of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Epifaniy. The event happened during the festive service in St. George's Cathedral in Istanbul.
Besides, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko guaranteed the state’s respect for the religious choice of every citizen of the country.
