Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadym Gutzeit assured that all Ukrainian athletes who take part in this year's Olympics in Tokyo are healthy, none of them has been diagnosed with coronavirus yet. The minister announced this on the air of Ukraine 24 TV channel.
"Everyone is healthy, everyone is training, everyone is preparing. Every day our teams arrive, and in two or three days the entire team will live in the village, and let's hope that everyone will be healthy and the Olympic Games will begin," Gutzeit said.
At the same time, the Minister of Youth and Sports noted that every year more and more Ukrainian athletes will be represented at the Olympic Games. However, for this it is also necessary to create the appropriate conditions for Ukrainian sport to develop.
“Now we need to invest in infrastructure, invest in coaches, in the development of athletes, sports schools, and then in five, ten years we will see more and more athletes at the Olympic Games,” he said.
Meanwhile, two athletes living in the Olympic Village have become the first to test positive for Covid-19 just days before the Tokyo Games are set to begin on Friday.
