The agreements related to the returning of Ukrainian POWs back to Ukraine are already reached, the final documents are being prepared. Ombudsman of the Verkhovna Rada Lyudmyla Denisova said so as Hromadske reports.
“The agreements to return the sailors are already reached. There is the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) decision. The final documents are being done now, and I think we will meet our sailors soon in the Motherland,” Denisova said.
But the lawyer of the sailors Nikolai Polozov says he does not know anything about this agreement.
“I can say the negotiations are held but at what stage they are and I do not know when they will be realized in a practical way as I am not taking any part in it. If any procedural actions will be held relating to the legalization of the documents, we will be informed about it, because the sailors cannot sign them without lawyers. But anyone did not say anything about it. From yesterday we started the new stage – review of the documents of the criminal case,” Polozov said.
As we reported earlier, on November 25, 2018, Russian border guards seized the Ukrainian Yana Kapu raid tug and small armored artillery boats Berdyansk and Nikopol of the Naval Forces of Ukraine in the Kerch Strait area, using weapons. As a result of the incident, 24 Ukrainian sailors were detained and arrested. They were transported from Crimea to the Moscow Lefortovo detention facility. In addition, three Ukrainian sailors wounded during the shelling by the Russians were transferred to the Prison Hospital.
