Those who died for independence were commemorated on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv on the Day of Defenders and Defendersses. In particular, this morning the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky took part in the ceremony of honoring the memory of those who died for independence, the press service of the president reports.
The head of state laid flowers to the Wall of Remembrance of those who died for our country. A minute of silence was held, after which the military band performed the national anthem of Ukraine. Soldiers of honor guard saluted with six volleys.
The ceremony was also attended by Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Roman Mashovets.
As it was reported earlier, today, on October 14, Ukraine celebrates three holidays at once: Day of Defenders and Defendersses, Intercession of the Theotokos and the Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks. In Kyiv on October 14 traffic is blocked on central streets due to the procession to the Day of Defenders.
