President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky assessed the situation related to the beating of the Ukrinform journalists which took place during a press conference at the agency on July 30. The state leader commented on this occasion in Ivano-Frankivsk on July 30; he came there with a working visit, Ukrinform reports.
“How can I assess the situation when a person is beaten up? We are working now on a new team which is to focus on journalists’ protection. I realize that this is a very serious profession. I worked with journalists for 15 years on my own. This case has to be investigated and the people involved in such activity should be punished severely,” Zelensky said.
As we reported earlier, young people wearing “Tradition and Order” T-shirts attacked one of the halls of the National News Agency of Ukraine. The attack was carried out during the press conference related to the elections on the 50 district in Donbas. They knocked down the door, broke the expensive acoustic conference system, ripped out 5 microphones and severed the shutter. As a result, three workers of Ukrinform have been injured. Doctors recorded eye injury and multiple contusions of the one worker’s body.
A criminal case is opened due to the event.
