Pavlo Petrenko, the Minister of Justice of Ukraine claimed to 112 Ukraine that there are no obstacles for the continuation of the procedure of the extradition of Mikheil Saakashvili, the leader of 'Rukh Novykh Syl' Party to Georgia.
'At the moment there are no juridical obstacles toward the continuation of the procedure of the extradition, extradition check on the request sent to the Justice Ministry of Ukraine and Prosecutor General's Office from Georgia. We will act only within the current legislation and international norms. We expect the end of the extradition check by the prosecutor's office to make the final decision on the extradition of Saakashvili', he said.
At the same time, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the parliament of Georgia who pays the official visit to the US claimed that Saakashvili will be arrested in the case of the extradition from Kyiv to Tbilisi.
'Talking about the extradition of Mikheil Saakashvili, he will be arrested in Georgia. There is a little political support for him in Georgia and we are not interested where Saakashvili will be, in Georgia or Ukraine from the political point of view. The court hearing against him took place in Georgia and there is a court decision that provides the arrest of Saakashvili when he appears in the territory of Georgia'.
As we reported the Сounty Administrative Court of Kyiv rejected the suit of Mikheil Saakashvili against the State Migration Service of Ukraine and Department of State Migration Service in Kyiv region on February 6.
The Appeal Court of Kyiv confirmed the decision on the refuse to provide Saakashvili with the status of a person in need of the additional protection on February 5.
Moreover, the Tbilisi city court found Mikheil Saakashvili guilty in accordance with the case of Sandro Girgvliani’s murder and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
