American Mark VI patrol boats will be sent to the Sea of Azov to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. Ukraine will be the first country in the world to receive these boats from the United States. Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Neyizhpapa said this in an interview with Dumskaya.
According to Neyizhpapa, this year, the Ukrainian fleet will be reinforced with 16 Mark VI patrol boats. Some of these boats will be sent to the Sea of Azov.
“The United States planned to have them only for themselves and, except for Ukraine they have not offered them to anyone. This happened because we have developed a strategy and set goals - how to gradually develop Ukrainian Navy,” he said.
According to the Commander of the Navy, Mark VI boats can be equipped with weapons and equipment for various purposes.
“From patrolling function and to landing of sabotage forces near the enemy's shore, the equipment for searching and destroying mines, short-range missile systems to eliminate the enemy,” Neyizhpapa added.
Earlier, it was reported that in addition to Mark VI boats, the United States will sell cannonry, infrared radars and other military equipment to Ukraine.
In addition, earlier, Ukraine and France agreed on joint production of patrol boats.
