The Ministry of Healthcare is considering coronavirus vaccination for children 12 years of age and adolescents, Health Minister Viktor Lyashko announced on Ukraine 24 TV channel.
“The issue [of vaccination] is being considered. Today, vaccine manufacturers have allowed the use of the vaccine from the age of 12, some even earlier. Today, the highest number of ill people are adults and the highest number of deaths is among people over 60. Until we vaccinate at least 50-70% of the adult population, it is too early to start mass vaccination of teenagers,” Lyashko said.
Lyashko noted that the priority of the mass immunoprophylaxis campaign against Covid-19 in Ukraine is the vaccination of the adult population.
“If we get to 70% of adult vaccinations, we can replicate the positive example of the UK and Denmark, which have lifted quarantine restrictions at these levels of vaccination coverage, and, despite the numbers, their health care system is doing well. We may have the same situation,” the minister added.
As it was reported earlier, 11,757 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ukraine during the past 24 hours. 194 people have died.
