The Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) in Minsk supported the initiative of Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Ertugrul Apakan to open Zolote checkpoint on October 20, as press secretary of Ukraine’s representative in the TCG Darka Olifer wrote on Facebook.
“The Trilateral Contact Group unanimously supported the initiative of Chief Monitor of the SMM OSCE Ertugrul Apakan to open Zolote checkpoint on October 20, 2017. The Normandy Four leaders reached this decision a year ago, but the “LNR” militants continue blocking the issue,” Olfier wrote.
She also noted that the Russian representative in the economic sub-group admitted the necessity of paying the debt of the “LNR” for water and “phrased his readiness to participate in the development of a mechanism to pay off the debt according to Ukrainian legislation”.
Zolote checkpoint is equipped and ready to operate since March 31, 2016. The countries of the TCG agreed to open the checkpoint last autumn. 2,000 cars and 5,000 people on foot can go through the checkpoint daily. However, the “LNR” leaders disrupt the opening of the checkpoint.
