Owner of 112 Ukraine TV channel Taras Kozak demanded from law enforcement bodies to assume preventive measures and provide the security of the employees of 112 Ukraine TV channel. In such a way, Kozak responded to the information about the possible provocation prepared against the broadcaster.
At night, on November 4, near the building of 112 Ukraine TV channel, unknown considered the operational situation and were caught on CCTV. According to the TV channel, these people are members of the far-right organization Uknown Patriot (Nevidomy Patriot). A person looked like Serhiy Karhorodsky was spotted by CCTV. Earlier, he was a shooter at the OUN battalion; he went to war and has firearms skills.
“The Ukrainian authorities are obliged to take up their direct responsibilities and protect the freedom of speech instead of oppressing it. Firstly, it concerns the law enforcement bodies that should prevent violent intentions of the far-rights,” Kozak stated.
In July 2019, two unknown persons shelled the building of the 112 Ukraine TV channel from a grenade launcher. This terrorist act is still not investigated; however, it was committed in downtown Kyiv, threatening the lives of dozens of people. Before the attack, some employees of 112 Ukraine TV channel received massages with threats that were ignored by the law enforcers.
According to Kozak, it is unacceptable acts of intimidation that might lead to serious consequences. The impunity of the far-right organizations in Ukraine encourages them to more aggression. The law enforcement bodies are obliged to protect Ukrainian and fight against crime.
Kozak reminded that European institutions and diplomatic establishment repeatedly demanded from the Ukrainian authorities to protect the freedom of speech in Ukraine.
