It is known that explosions and fire are at the 48th arsenal - the storage base for ammunition of Armed Forces in Vinnytsia region, a few kilometers from Kalynivka. According to the data available in open sources, 188,000 tons of ammunition is stored in the arsenal. The area of the arsenal is about 60 hectares. Among the ammunition stored in the arsenal there are rockets Smerch, Hurricane and Grad. According to journalist Yury Butusov, the storage standards in the arsenal are exceeded by several times.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman arrived at Vinnytsya.
The Prime Minister announced that various versions of the reasons of the fire in Kalynivka are being developed now, however apparently it is the question of external factors.
In 2005, on the basis of the 48th arsenal, it was considered to create a regional Western center for the elimination of weapons, but local authorities actively opposed the establishment of such a center and it was never established. However, there were reports that obsolete ammunition from the Khmelnytsky and Lviv regions was being brought to the arsenal.
