Lyudmyla Denisova, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine, stated that the talks with the Russian side concerning her visit to the political prisoners are still underway. The representatives of the Health Ministry added that they were ready to provide quality health services, as it is reported on the website of the ombudsman.
“Lyudmyla Denisova noted that the process of the negotiations with Russian Federation is underway. She continues insisting that either Ukrainian or international doctors have to examine the political prisoners,” the message says.
After the meeting with Ulana Suprun, Acting Minister of Healthcare, Denisova added that the Health Ministry is ready to provide quality health services to all detained Ukrainians if Russia agrees.
Besides, Denisova and Suprun agreed to sign a Memorandum on Cooperation to connect the ombudsman’s office with the Health Ministry directly.
It is noted that there are around 100 Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, four of them announced a hunger strike – Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Shumkov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and Volodymyr Balukh.
Earlier, the representatives of the Health Ministry appealed to Russia with a demand to let Ukrainian and international medical workers visit Ukrainian political prisoners. Besides, Ulana Suprun published a letter to Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, and to Veroníka Skvortsóva, Russian Health Minister, dated May 29.
