The Synod of Orthodox Church of Ukraine holds a meeting in the House of Metropolitan on territory of Sofia Kyivska on June 24. The Metropolitan of Kyiv and All-Ukraine Epiphany heads the Synod, as Ukrinform agency reports.
According to bishops, during the meeting, it is planned to make a decision concerning the statements of the Honorary Patriarch of Orthodox Church of Ukraine Filaret on “restoration” of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate.
The Synod consists of 12 members, three of which are permanent: Patriarch Filaret, Metropolitan Makariy and Metropolitan Symeon. Patriarch Filaret did come to the Synod meeting.
The Honorary Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Filaret, continues to stagger the building of the newly established church. He openly stated that he would revive the Kyiv Patriarchate - even if it needed a new split.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate granted Ukraine Tomos on the autocephaly in October 2018; the signature ceremony took place in Istanbul in January 2019. Tomos, as the document, was brought to Ukraine soon after that. Filaret was the only churchman who did not support Tomos at the council that took place in Kyiv in December 2018. However, it appeared that he had agreed to sign the decision to disband the Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate.
