Deputies and the leadership of Swedish Parliament Riksdag on Wednesday, November 29, honored the memory of the Holodomor victims in Ukraine in 1932-1933. This was stated in a message on the website of the Ukrainian Embassy in Sweden.
"The event was attended by the speaker of the Swedish Riksdag Urban Ahlin, the first vice-speaker Ewa Thalen Finne, the head of the Swedish-Ukrainian Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Christer Hammarberg, members of the Swedish Riksdag, ambassadors of the countries of the world accredited in Sweden, representatives of the Ukrainian public organizations in Sweden. The event in memory of the the Holodomor victims in Ukraine in 1932-1933 was organized with the direct assistance of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Riksdag of Sweden and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” the message says.
During the event, Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Ahlin, Ukrainian Ambassador to Sweden Ihor Sahach, Head of the Swedish-Ukrainian Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Hammarberg addressed the audience.
Guests of the event were shown photos from the archives of the Central State Film and Photo Archives of Ukraine, reports of eyewitnesses of tragic events, materials of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
“The memory of millions of Ukrainians tortured to death with hunger was honored with a minute of silence,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.
As it was reported earlier the world honored memory of Holodomor victims on November 25. Mourning events were held in a number of countries.
Flowers and candles to memorials abroad were brought by employees of diplomatic representations of Ukraine and representatives of Ukrainian diasporas.
