The General Producer of 112 Ukraine TV channel stressed that the struggle for the freedom of speech in Ukraine is being conducted on two fronts – in the European Parliament and in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The style and the ways of this struggle are quite different. The number of the deputies in the EP who support the draft resolution on freedom of speech in Ukraine is constantly increasing.
“Three weeks passed since the petition in support of 112 Ukraine and NewsOne got over 27,000 votes, while the counter on the President’s Administration website shows 24,000. Now the leadership of the TV channels sent an official request on this question. Simultaneously, the European Parliament is considering the draft resolution on prevention of suppression of freedom of speech in Ukraine. 43 European parliamentarians signed this document, soon, the draft will be presented for discussion in the EP,” Artem Marchevsky said.
At the same time, Ukraine’s people’s deputies from ruling political parties do not stop trying to shut down leading informational TV channels of Ukraine. For instance, recently, the representatives of “People’s Front” in the Verkhovna Rada reacted to the accusatory material about their leader Maksym Burbaka.
“I would like to thank the people’s deputies from “People’s Front”, who stated that the TV channel should be closed. They said it after a journalist investigation conducted by 112 Ukraine against the leader of the mentioned party – Maksym Burbaka. In this regard I would like to say that the program of the journalist investigation has already been translated into English and soon, the European parliamentarians will watch it. Such actions of the political party help us in the voting for the future resolution. Besides, Burbak made several statements concerning our TV channels from the Verkhovna Rada rostrum. We have heard these statement and we are preparing a lawsuit,” the General Producer of 112 Ukraine said.
