Due to the night shelling of the 112 Ukraine Channel from a grenade launcher, which is already qualified as a Terrorist Act in accordance with the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as systematic suppression of the rights of journalists and freedom of speech in Ukraine, the International Editorial Board of the 112 Ukraine TV Channel appeals to the Ukrainian authorities with the following statement:
1. The International Editorial Board requires the highest authority of the state and the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, in particular, the President of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the heads of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, to urgently submit their assessment of the events surrounding the 112 Ukraine TV channel, condemn the use of force and threats against journalists, take measures to establish persons involved in the terrorist attack and their speedy punishment.
2. The International Editorial Board demands from the highest authorities of the state and the authorities involved in the activities of the mass media in Ukraine to reaffirm their commitment to freedom of speech and other democratic freedoms that should be fundamental in Ukrainian society. We believe that the disregard by the authorities of the numerous appeals of the channel on threats from right-wing radical organizations and its inaction in preventing such actions has led to the fact that the 112 Ukraine TV channel was shelled with a grenade launcher.
3. The International Editorial Board of 112 Ukraine intends to urgently raise the issue of the suppression of freedom of speech in Ukraine, the impunity of radical organizations and the inadequate security of Ukrainian journalists on the agenda of major European and international organizations that are concerned with the protection of human rights and democratic freedoms. In the near future, our appeal will be sent to the President of the European Commission, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists , in the Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, as well as to the European Federation of Journalists. Also, the appeal of the International Editorial Board has been sent to foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
4. The International Editorial Board expresses the words of support to the 112 Ukraine team and assures it that it will make every effort to attract the attention of the world to the urgent protection of one of the most popular Ukrainian TV channels, the current attacks on which testify to the serious threat to freedom of speech and independence of the media in Ukraine.
