State Investigation Bureau to open criminal case against Ulyana Suprun

Acting Healthcare Minister of Ukraine is accused of the interference in the work of the court

Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has obliged the State Investigation Bureau (SIB) to open the criminal proceeding against Acting Healthcare Minister Ulyana Suprun for interference in the work of the court as “Sudebno-Yurydychna” newspaper reported.

The court made such a decision on February 13, 2019.

“Pechersk District Court of Kyiv obliged the authorized officials of the State Investigation Bureau to put the data on the commitment of the criminal offense upon Part 2, Article 376 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to United register of pretrial investigations and begin the pretrial investigation against Acting Healthcare Minister Ulyana Suprun,” the message said.

This article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides the punishment for the interference in any form in the activity of the judge to prevent him from fulfilling the official duties or achieve of the delivering of the unlawful decision by him. Part 2 provides the same actions committed with the abuse of power.

As we reported, Suprun's role as acting health minister was questioned by MP from the Radical Party of Lyashko Ihor Mosiychuk. The court explained that such a decision was made as Suprun has dual citizenship. Apart from the Ukrainian one, she also has a U.S. passport.

The government of Ukraine expressed the support of Suprun, as well as the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, did.

On February 7, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appealed the decision of the court on the suspension of Ulyana Suprun.
