A stand with the flag of Independence of Ukraine was solemnly opened near the Verkhovna Rada. The ceremony was broadcasted online by Pershiy Nezalezhniy TV channel.
"For Ukraine, 2021 is an unusual year. It has many fundamental events and anniversaries related to our history. We recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of our Constitution, in a few days we will celebrate 30 years of our independence. With the introduction of the Independence flag to the Verkhovna Rada, the first steps of our free, democratic, independent country began, and today the Ukrainian flag is hoisted not only over state buildings, such as the Verkhovna Rada, but also at the front. It has not yet returned to Ukrainian Donetsk and Luhansk, it is not yet in Sevastopol and Simferopol, but that's only for now," Parliament Speaker Dmytro Razumkov said.
The Ukrainian flag can be seen at Olympic Games and at Ukrainian embassies as well, as the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada noted.
"I wish for us to continue to stand proud of our flag and our actions under this flag. It is wrong to keep it only within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, and so for the first time in 30 years the flag of Independence will be put before the Verkhovna Rada on the Constitution Square where anyone will be able to approach it and take pictures," Razumkov says.
As it was reported earlier, a military parade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence will be held on the central street of Kyiv on August 24. In addition, the air column of security and defense forces and the armed forces of partner countries will take part in the celebration in a flight performance.
