The new wave of coronavirus that has started in Ukraine will be significantly higher and faster moving than the  one observed in autumn. It can become a national catastrophe as doctor and scientist of the Biochemistry Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Halytsky reported.

According to Halytsky, the spring wave of incidence will last until mid-May and its peak will be observed in April. Meanwhile, the daily number of new confirmed cases of coronavirus might reach 40,000, and the number of daily deaths could rise to 1,000.

“The intensive vaccination could hamper the quick development of the epidemic in Ukraine. To frustrate the spring wave of incidence, about 50-70% of the population had to be already vaccinated; however, the paces of the vaccination are not high,” the message said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal claimed that the third wave of coronavirus pandemic began in Ukraine. He stated that the medical system in Ukraine is ready for the third wave of coronavirus pandemic. Shmygal also called on local authorities to observe discipline and take a responsible approach to arrange anti-epidemic measures.
