A new, more dangerous strain of coronavirus from South Africa has been found in Ukraine. It is more aggressive than the previously discovered strain from the United Kingdom. Ukraine's Health Minister Maksym Stepanov announced this at a briefing.

"British strain of the virus is rampant in Ukraine. It is recorded throughout the country. Also in recent studies conducted abroad, where we send samples, the South African strain was also found in Ukraine. The difference is that it is more aggressive, the incubation period is from 1 to 3 days, it is more contagious and infects three times more people than previous strains. It affects the younger population. Therefore, follow all the rules of quarantine restrictions, use masks, antiseptics, avoid any mass gatherings," Stepanov said.

At the same time, Stepanov noted that the situation in the regions remains tense. Almost 84% of oxygen beds are occupied in the capital, which is the highest rate in the country; in Lviv region, it is more than 71%, in Zhytomyr region - almost 71%, in Mykolaiv region - 71%.

The minister added that in the western region of Ukraine the situation is stabilizing, the number of hospitalized is decreasing.

Earlier, a new anti-record of a number of diseases was set in Ukraine. For the past 24hrs, 19,893 people have fallen ill with Covid-19. This is the largest number of people who were infected during the day in the entire period of the pandemic in Ukraine. In particular, 834 children and 484 health workers got infected.
