Today, on January 28, in the central and southern regions of Ukraine, the rescuers have announced ‘red’ and ‘orange’ levels of danger due to the snowstorm as the Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.
The deterioration in weather conditions might lead to the disruption or stop of traffic and power blackouts in the settlements.
The ‘red’ level of danger is declared in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. Heavy snowfall is expected there.
“The growth of the snow cover is 30-40 cm, the wind speed increased up to 15-20 m/s, heavy snowstorm, snowbanks, wet-snow accretion (III level of danger, ‘red’),” the message said.
In Kyrovohrad region, due to the heavy snowfall, the rescuers declared an ‘orange’ level of danger. The wet-snow accretion is expected; while the growth of the snow-cover makes 20-30 cm.
The significant wet snow with 10-15 cm growth of snow cover is also expected in Cherkasy, Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
The rescuers ask the drivers to refrain from riding and do not leave the vehicles along the roads as they would be cleared from the snow by special equipment.
As we reported, to date, Ukraine is going through an active snow cyclone that caused severe weather conditions and led to emergencies in the southern part of the country. In some areas, the height of snowdrifts reached 1.5 meters.
