Diplomat Oleh Shamshur could become a new Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, instead of the fired Valeriy Chaly, who now heads Ukrainian diplomatic mission in France. This was reported by the BBC agency.
It is noted that the President's Office is considering several candidates for the post of ambassador to the United States. According to different sources, several of them refused to go to Washington, and others – were not accepted by the United States. Therefore, the process was delayed.
At the moment, the possible candidates for the position are: Ambassador of Ukraine in Israel Hennadiy Nadolenko, who has worked in the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States; Ukrainian Ambassador to France Oleh Shamshur, who has already headed the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States. Nadolenko called this information “rumors,” and Shamshur, according to the information, is now in Kyiv.
As it was reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Valeriy Chaly from the post of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. and from the post of Ukraine’s Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago, which he held on a part-time basis. Chaly was appointed as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. in July 2015.
