The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Serhiy Shkarlet as Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. 226 MPs supported the decision, as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported.
“I commend the submission on the appointment as the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine of the candidature of Serhiy M. Shkarlet. The candidate has significant professional experience and knows the sphere of education from the inside as for a long time he worked at the institutions of higher education at different links, including the position of the rector of the higher education institution. MPs have already familiarized with the activity of Serhiy Shkarlet as during the past six months he is fulfilling the duties of the Education and Science Minister of Ukraine,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal stated.
Serhiy Shkarlet is a doctor of economics, professor, honored worker of science and technology. He manages the Chernihiv National University of Technology since 2010. In 2013, former minister of education and science Dmytro Tabachnyk handed Shkarlet with award pin and certificate Honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine.
In 2010, Shkarlet participated in the election to the Chernihiv regional council from the Party of Regions.
On June 25, 2020, government appointed Serhiy Shkarlet as the Deputy Minister of Education and Science and Acting Education Minister.
Earlier, the Ukrainian parliament appointed Roman Leshchenko as the new Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food. 242 MPs supported the decision.
