According to Geletey, over the first years after Poroshenko’s inauguration, there were a couple of high-profile cases related to assassination attempts on his life.
“In 2014, 2015 and 2016 the greater burden for the Department concerning security for officials, and for the president primarily was the president’s place of work, his residence, destinations, locations in public places. And in 2017-2018 the priorities have shifted. The main danger is expected in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, in Joint Forces Operation zone, where the President comes a lot,” he said.
As Geletey put it, the state security along with the special services, such as the SBU, military intelligence, foreign intelligence and police provided security for Poroshenko and prevented 11 assassination attempts'.
'I would like you to understand that 11 is the number of prevented assassination attempts against the President when our servicemen of the counter-sniper service saw the so-called sniper pairs which prepared a terrorist attack on the territory beyond our control. You know, a professional sniper working with a professional sniper system can hit a target, staying three kilometers away from it. So we think it was an assassination attempt on the life and health of the President. We also check locations for a possible terrorist attack. We seize arms and explosive devices,” the Head of the State Security Department said.
