Security Council head predicts $6 billion of defense spending in 2018

Secretary of National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov predicts that 2018 defense budget will amount to at least 6 billion dollars. This is stated by the press service of the National Security Council.

"The main funding will come from the general fund, which will be around 6 billion, the special fund will be formed exclusively on the basis of the proposals of power ministries and departments and amount to about 134 million dollars," Turchinov said.

Turchinov's headed on Wednesday defense budget discussion with First Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, authorities of the Security Service of Ukraine, National Guard, National Police, intelligence bodies and other law enforcement agencies.

"According to National Security and Defense Council Secretary, defense budget is formed according to the national security strategy of Ukraine and will be at least 5% of the gross domestic product, which is already an axiom for the budget policy of our state," the message says.

During the meeting, Turchynov noted that when planning the budget, it is necessary to take into account the issue of increasing salaries for servicemen.

As it was reported earlier Prosecutor's Office found debt of 6.1 billion UAH in defense budget. It is noted that the amount of debt is 11% of annual funding. At the same time, overdue debts amount reached 755 million UAH.
