Second power unit of Khmelnitskiy NPP shut down

The second power unit of the Khmelnitskiy NPP was shut down on Sunday, September 2. The press office of the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company (NNEGC) reports. 

It is reported that the shut down took place at 1:25 a.m. in terms of the preparation for major preventive maintenance.

It is stated that the reconstruction and the modernization of the power unit will be undertaken, and the number of components and aggregates will be replaced. It is expected that the maintenance will last 80 days.  

'The violence of the conditions and limits of safe operation during the transitional processes of the power unit shut down was not reported. Radiation situation on the industrial site and in the adjacent regions did not change, is at the level corresponding to the normal operation of the power units, and does not exceed the natural background values,' the representatives of the NPP claim.
