On Friday, February 5, an emergency shutdown of the power unit occurred at Zaporizhia thermal power plant (TPP). This is the second accident in a week. This was stated on the website of the Enerhodar City Council.
"Today, February 5, at 10:49, power unit No.1 of DTEK Zaporizhia TPP was disconnected due to a temporary malfunction of the cooling system of the T-1 transformer," the message reads.
The third and fourth power units of the thermal power plant are currently in operation. Commissioning works have begun at the second power unit.
As we reported, in Enerhodar, Zaporizhia region, a serious accident occurred at a thermal power plant, as a result of which the city was left without electricity and water supply.
Because of the accident, the united energy system of Ukraine has capacity shortages of 750 MW. To compensate the deficits, the operators of Ukrenergo increased the production of electricity at hydroelectric power stations.
“As a result of the full dump of Zaporizhia thermal power plant, the united energy system of Ukraine got the capacity shortages 750 MW that was compensated by the operators of Ukrenergo at the expense of the increase of production of electricity at hydroelectric power stations, which produced 26.8 million kW per hour on February 3 and it is for 8 million kW more that volumes of the trade schedules. The emergency assistance from related energy systems was not activated on February 3,” the message said.
