The searches of six suffered citizens of Ukraine, members of crew of Bourbon Rhode are not successful yet as Ukraine’s Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova reported on Facebook.
According to the specified information, on September 26, 2019, 10 Ukrainians were on the board of Bourbon Rhode during the fatal accident in Atlantic Ocean. Two of them died; two were rescued. At the moment, the search of six Ukrainians takes place. Moreover, the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Center of Fort-de-France coordinates the search and rescue operation.
“However, during two weeks, the fate of six citizens of Ukraine, particularly, Andriy Izmailsky, Oleksandr Korshykov, Viacheslav Kovalchuk, Yevhen Melhunov, Oleh Kravets and Dmytro Kozyrev, is unknown,” Denisova noted.
Within the cooperation in human rights protection, the ombudsman appealed to France’s Ambassador on Human Rights François Croquette to facilitate in the efficient search of suffered citizens of Ukraine.
Earlier President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky asked French President Emmanuel Macron to continue searches of six Ukrainians who were on the board of Bourbon Rhode vessel.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reported that Bourbon Rhode ship disappeared as a result of a storm in Atlantic Ocean. The citizens of Ukraine were among the crew members of the vessel. The ship was heading for Georgetown from the Canary Islands and got into a cyclone.
Earlier Melita cargo ship under the flag of the Russian Federation entered the territorial waters of Ukraine due to stormy weather. After the questioning, according to the protocol, the ship was sent along a safe route to the destination.
The vessel was promptly found aboard the Tendra Spit, its crew was questioned according to the protocol with the help of the Maritime Security of the State Border Service of Ukraine. It was done despite the formal grounds for detaining the vessel (violation of the state border of Ukraine, AIS system turned off), taking into account the circumstances and in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention on Territorial Sea, UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, to the professional actions.
