SBU: Russia’s special forces prepared to invade Ukraine using web sites

Russia’s special forces actively used information and psychological operations against Ukraine through the social network VKontakte and Odnoklassniki while preparing for the military invasion. This was announced during a round table in Kyiv by Deputy Head of the Department of Information Counterintelligence Defense of the Security Service of Ukraine Yulia Laputina, reports UNIAN.

“The period of preparation for the military invasion was accompanied by the active use of special information and information-psychological operations against Ukraine by the special services of the Russian Federation, in particular, by creating, administering, and artificially increasing the attendance of anti-Ukrainian and pro-Russian groups in the Ukrainian segment of Russian social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki,” she said.

“It is known that a significant part of these groups were administered from the territory of the Russian Federation, and measures were also taken to attract Ukrainians who for money remuneration carried out through Yandex actions to harm the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security of Ukraine,” Laputina added.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian provider blocked Russian web sites in Sevastopol. Access to VKontakte, Yandex and Odnoklassniki was blocked in the morning on May 31.
