Ukraine’s SBU (Security Service) started investigating the cases of issuance of Hungarian passports to the residents of Zakarpattia region, as Yuriy Lutsenko, Prosecutor General, told the journalists, 112 Ukraine reports.
“The criminal proceeding opened, SBU deals with that,” he said.
According to Lutsenko, the situation concerning the dual citizenship is unequivocal: one has to bear responsibility for such crime. The General Prosecutor mentioned Andriy Artemenko, as an example, who was deprived of the Ukrainian citizenship after it had been determined that he had a second passport.
“If the SBU reveal such cases concerning other individuals – governors, mayors, ministers, pensioners, military, the same story is waiting: they will be deprived of the Ukrainian citizenship,” Lutsenko stated.
Earlier, a video of issuance of Hungarian passports to Ukrainians was published.
Earlier, Ukrinfrom published a video where a few Ukrainians are receiving Hungarian passports and owe allegiance to Hungry in the Consulate in Berehove. The Hungarian diplomat recommended not to inform the Ukrainian authorities about receiving the new documents.
Later, Pavlo Klimkin, the Foreign Minister, said that the video is being checked on the authenticity. If it is authentic, the Hungarian consul might be expelled from the country.
In his turn, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, claimed the attempts to intimidate the Transcarpathian Hungarians and threatened to make Ukraine’s integration more complicated.
Later it was also reported that for seven years, the Hungarian consulates in Berehove and Uzhhorod of Zakarpattia region have been granting Hungarian citizenship to local residents who are citizens of Ukraine.
