SBU determines identities of 26 Russian officers who trained Wagner Group

SBU determined the identities of 26 Russian officers who were “seconded” as drill instructors in Wagner Group (Russian paramilitary organization), as Vasyl Hrytsak, SBU Chairman, said at the briefing, the press office of the service reports.

According to him, Russian career military servicemen conducted tactical, firearms, engineering and artillery training, tank crews training, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and air defence.

“We determined the identities of Oleh Demyanenko, lieutenant colonel of Russian Armed Forces, who is responsible for the training of the so-called company task group Karpaty, which mostly consisted of Ukrainian citizens – members of the armed gangs in Donbas,” SBU Head stressed.

According to him, this group was created to conduct intelligence and terrorist activities in Ukraine.

SBU determined all the members of Karpaty group – 56 people. Their personal data in to be made public soon.

According to Hrytsak,the leadership of Wagner Group and the instructors mentioned above were invited to the military parade on May 9, dedicated to Victory Day.

“I am convinced that this is aimed to boost the morale of the mercenaries after multiple losses they have sustained in Syria at the beginning of this year,” Hrytsak stressed.

Earlier, SBU determined that Russian career military servicemen were involved in the attack in Mariupol in 2015.

The International Research Group Bellingcat made public data on people involved in attack at peaceful districts on Mariupol on January 24, 2015, when at least 30 people died and dozens were injured.
